Earthquakes tend to happen around plate boundaries.
Because plates tend to slide past each it makes an earthquake.
The area where the plates meet that cause earthquakes is called the Ring of Fire.
The closest earthquake to Manitou (current position) was a 3.2 magnitude on the Richter Scale. Found about 134 miles, 310 degrees North West of Denver, Colorado. It was felt atop Hahns Peak, in Wyoming. The energy was about 1,000 times more energy than a magnitude one earthquake.
An earthquake in Minahasa, Sulawesi, Indonesia had a Richter of 5.1 at Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 12:06:56 PM at epicenter, about Monday, January 19, 2009 at 09:06:56 PM with Mountain Time Zone. Epicenter was located about 48.5 (78 km) miles below the surface. About 125 miles (200km) North East of Palu, Sulawesi, Indonesia. No pictures have been taken yet so it will be replaced with a picture of a tsunami after math that happened in 2004.
